Background & Experience

Mirko is a water rights attorney and civil litigator based in Salida . He helps his clients across Colorado adjudicate, protect, and defend their water and property rights in state and federal court. Mirko leverages his rural background with his legal experience in water law and litigation to deliver value-based results for his clients.

Before forming Hennessy Kruse LLP in 2024, Mirko moved to Salida in 2022 to start his own practice and better serve his growing base of farming, ranching, and property-association clients in Colorado. He helps them protect their valuable water and property rights.

Prior to starting his own practice, Mirko was an associate attorney for one of the premier water and natural resource law firms in Denver. There, Mirko litigated complex water issues in state water court, federal district court, and before the United States Supreme Court. Before becoming an associate attorney, Mirko clerked for the Chief Justice of the Colorado Supreme Court.

Mirko was born and raised in Alamosa where his family raises potatoes, alfalfa, and barley on their farm in the San Luis Valley.

Education

Mirko earned his Juris Doctor, Order of the Coif from the University of Colorado Law School in 2018 and graduated in the top 5% of his class. He earned his Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude from Boston College in 2014.

Admissions & Associations

Mirko is authorized to appear in all courts of record of the State of Colorado, as well as the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He is a member of the U.S. District Court of Colorado’s Civil Pro Bono Program and is the Water Law Coordinating Editor for the Colorado Lawyer.
